Contemporary Dress: Spotlight on the USPS Uniform
In this webinar, MA Costume Studies students enrolled in "History of Fashion IV: Contemporary Dress" are sharing their research on the US postal uniform, from its institution in 1868 to its present iteration as: shaped by the choice of individual wearers; sourced through a complex web of online retailers; and central to contemporary fashion imagination.

This class was taught in dialogue with the curatorial department at the National Postal Museum. Some of the students' research projects draw on the museum's collection of uniform objects. Other students focus on popular representations of postal people and USPS iconography. And a small group of students are working to develop a framework for a forthcoming oral history project on postal workwear, which will become part of the museum's holdings.
