Louis Loves Lucille: The Armstrongs' Love Letters

The Louis Armstrong House Museum shares new works by artists Vuyo Sotashe, Kayla Farrish and Daniel J. Watts created while in quarantine, based on Armstrong’s love letters to his wife Lucille found in the museum’s archives. The artists will be joined by Jake Goldbas, Artistic Director of Programs, as they deconstruct the creative process and individual perspectives.

JAKE GOLDBAS is currently Artistic Director of Programs for the Louis Armstrong House Museum. In 2019 he recorded for the Grammy nominated jazz album “Dancer in Nowhere” by Miho Hazama. Goldbas is the principal drummer for the Tony Award winning Broadway show Dear Evan Hansen. @jakegoldbas

KAYLA FARRISH/Decent Structure Arts is an interdisciplinary company combining dance, filmmaking, theater, and beyond. In 2017, she created camera/live works Beloved Loveless, With Delicacy and Permanence and 5 short films at BAAD! and Chez Bushwick Residency. @fulloutfarrish

VUYO SOTASHE is a New York based vocalist, composer, and performer originally from South Africa. He has performed with jazz legends Dee Dee Bridgewater and George Benson to name a few. He appeared with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. @vuyosotashe

DANIEL J. WATTS is a 2020 Tony Award nominee and Outer Critics Circle Award Winner for his portrayal of Ike Turner in the hit broadway musical TINA. He has appeared in nine Broadway shows including Hamilton, Watts has served as an adjunct professor of NYU's Tisch New Studio. www.wattswords.com @dwattswords
