Dean’s Public Square Series presents "Art in Communities: Inclusivity, Care and Sustainability"

The art department’s focus for the Sustainable Communities theme will be an exploration of sustainability within the framework of inclusivity. Panelists will represent the studio and therapeutic arts, community organizing, and education.

The idea of care is central to our definition of a sustainable community and the discussion will consider topics such as:

Sustainable Communities: Community engagement via art.
Building sustainability for an artistic community.
Focus on communities. What makes a community?
Ideas of access. Who has access and what does it mean?
Where is art found and experienced? How?
Sustainability through solidarity economics and communities of care.
Artist community based models facilitating a larger sense of what’s possible.
Cultivating individual agency and advancing well-being.

Professor Marygrace Berberian will moderate the discussion. Dr. Berberian is a registered art therapist and clinical social worker who has dedicated her 25-year career to establishing accessible, community based art therapy services.
